General Membership Meeting, Program, & Lunch

Date: 10/3/2022

Time: 10:00 AM - 1:30 PM

The General Membership Business Meeting, presentation, and lunch will be held on October 3rd at the Arizona Heritage Center.

Professor Lauren McArthur Harris will speak on "Teaching History Today."  Dr. Harris is an associate professor of history education with a joint appointment in the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College and School of Historical, Philosophical, and Religious Studies at Arizona State University.  She will bring her teaching and research experiences to help us understand the issues facing History teachers today. She prepares those who will teach in secondary classrooms, using the process of historical inquiry. With a focus on source analysis and warranted claims using evidence, students learn processes and take ownership of the work of doing history. Dr. Harris will also discuss her work leading preservice teachers in mentoring students from a local high school on their National History Day projects (historical inquiry at its best!). She will include suggestions for community members who might follow a similar model.

Lunch may be purchased online or reserve your place with Mary McMahon and pay by cash or check by September 29th at 5:00 PM.  Members with reservations are responsible for payment even if unable to attend. Payments are nonrefundable.
